Matting service

Tirconaill studio has equipment to cut oversized mattes of up to 5 foot. Unframmed, matted work is important for many artists that want to provide transportable work for the local gift and craft shops.

Framing Advice

Black picture frames have a bold appearance that work well with black and white photos or any artwork that is high contrast.

White picture frames look clean and elegant but sometimes they can be too subdued, especially on a white wall. They work best with artwork that has lighter value scales.

Grey picture frames are trending atm and don't get lost as easily as white can. They are a great framing option if the artwork is going to be hung on a white wall.

It's all about finding out where the picture will be hung and what the customer likes.

Box frames are a great way to preserve family artifacts and memorabilia. The frame on the left preserves a 100-year-old sash from the Chloich Cheann Fhoala Banna Ceol. 

The frame on the right showcases boxing medals from the Donegal and Ulster champion, Naincí McMonagle.

Picture Framing is design

People don't know what they want in a picture frame until they see it, that's where design experience comes in.
I have a lot of experience in design and photography, I also apprenticed in a busy framing shop where I learned the ins and out of the craft. I hold a degree in graphic design.

Kevin at Tirconaill Studios helped me frame my father's band sash in a creative and cost effective way, it get's loads of compliments.
